Ubisoft Continues Development on Splinter Cell Remake Despite Rumors

Fans of the Splinter Cell franchise can breathe a sigh of relief as Ubisoft continues work on the highly anticipated remake of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. Originally announced in 2021, development on the remake has been slow, with rumors circulating about a possible cancellation. However, a new report from Insider Gaming confirms that the project is still alive and “making progress.”

The remake, codenamed “North,” is being developed using Ubisoft’s Snowdrop engine, which has powered major titles like The Division series and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. Despite financial challenges at Ubisoft, the development of the Splinter Cell remake appears to be on track.

The Splinter Cell franchise, with its iconic lead character Sam Fisher, has remained relevant thanks to crossover appearances in other games like Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Breakpoint. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a new, true Splinter Cell experience after years of absence since the last full game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

Ubisoft’s decision to focus on a more linear, mission-based game with the Splinter Cell remake could offer a refreshing change from its usual large-scale open-world titles. If successful, the remake could reinvigorate interest in the stealth-action genre, which has seen few major releases in recent years.

For now, fans will have to wait a little longer, but the continued development is a promising sign for the future of Sam Fisher’s return.
