Aetherella Awaits! Black Ops 6’s Zombies Easter Eggs Are a Fan-Fueled Frenzy

Call of Duty Zombies is absolutely thriving this year with Black Ops 6 delivering on some of the most inventive and over-the-top Easter eggs yet. For the first time in four years, Treyarch has brought back the classic round-based Zombies mode fans have been craving, complete with mind-boggling Easter eggs that have players everywhere buzzing.

Unlike older Zombies modes, which mostly featured straightforward horde defense with a few hidden extras, Black Ops 6 leans all-in on the wild side. You can’t scroll through a feed without seeing insane clips of players uncovering bizarre, elaborate secrets that feel like they’re out of a completely different game. Fair warning: If you’d rather experience these moments yourself, best to read no further!

One standout? Liberty Falls’ Aetherella statue secret. The map’s comic shop holds a statue of Aetherella, which does double duty as a laser-eyed zombie trap. But there’s more—a hidden quest to become the statue. YouTuber Glitching Queen revealed that gathering every mini-Aetherella figurine scattered around the map transforms one lucky player into a gigantic, living statue with devastating laser vision. Watching the statue plow through zombie hordes is as ridiculous as it sounds—and this power-up, though temporary, looks like one of the game’s strongest. Of course, getting there is no easy feat; you’ll need to build Liberty Falls’ unique wonder weapon, the Thrustodyne M23, a process with six unique steps. The weapon itself has a “jet gun” mode that obliterates anything in its path and an alt-fire that lets you snag items from hard-to-reach places.

Even more absurd is the hidden haunted bowling alley on Liberty Falls. If players collect a certain number of filthy bowling shoes, they’ll find themselves warped to an alley haunted by the one and only Mister Peeks, a grungy stuffed rabbit with a decidedly sinister vibe. Once inside, players can go head-to-head in a zombie bowling mini-game where you roll actual zombie-slaying bowling balls down the lanes. If the team reaches a score threshold, they’re rewarded with powerful weapon upgrades—a ridiculous amount of detail for something most players might never even encounter.

And it’s not just Liberty Falls that’s brimming with secrets. Over on the Terminus Island map, a newly discovered basketball Easter egg offers players an early-game bonus. As streamer Smartguy316 demonstrated, if you shoot a basketball on a rooftop from just the right angle, it will bounce its way over and land in a hoop on the other side, lighting up fireworks and granting the whole squad 2,000 points. It’s a simple but satisfying discovery that shows just how much Treyarch poured into every inch of these maps.

Seeing the sheer creativity in each new Zombies mode, it’s hard not to envy the attention to detail Treyarch puts into designing its meticulously layered, escape-room-like maps. For Black Ops 6’s standard multiplayer mode, wouldn’t it be incredible to see this level of chaotic fun? Imagine 6v6 maps with hidden puzzles and a reward like an instakill wonder weapon for the player who solves it. Balanced? Definitely not. Entertaining? Absolutely!

One thing’s for sure: Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode is the most engaging it’s been in years, and Treyarch has set a high bar for what’s possible. For now, I’ll just keep hunting for Easter eggs and dreaming about a multiplayer mode with some of that same mad energy.
