Call of Duty: Warzone’s New Map, Area 99, Unveiled for Season 1 After Black Ops 6 Launch
Activision has revealed the new Call of Duty: Warzone map, Area 99, set to debut in Season 1 following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Area 99 is notably the “birthplace” of Nuketown, a fan-favorite map from previous Black Ops titles, and will serve as a key location in the next phase of Warzone.
With the arrival of Black Ops 6, Warzone will undergo major changes, including the implementation of Call of Duty’s new omnidirectional movement system. Activision confirmed during the Call of Duty NEXT event that backpacks and certain scorestreaks, like Modern Warfare 3’s Guardian and Mosquito Drone, will be removed. However, the game will retain weapons from Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, while introducing fresh content, including new maps and modes for Warzone Season 1 and beyond.
Area 99, inspired by Nuketown’s rapid gameplay, is a Resurgence map designed for fast-paced combat. Set in a decaying retrofuturistic military site, the map offers players a range of environments to explore, from the Reactor and Cooling Towers to the Warehouse and the Test Site. Connected by roadways, trenches, and wiring, the compact map promises intense gunfights, especially near the Reactor, a focal point of the action. Area 99 also features a distinct 1950s aesthetic, including its mascot, Archie Atom, a nod to the era’s retrofuturism.
Although no official release date for Warzone Season 1 has been announced, players can expect more details soon. Exciting features like Classic Prestige, a Mastery Camo track, and Dark Ops Challenges are also expected, along with the return of the beloved Verdansk map in spring 2025.
