Sega Confirms New Sonic Racing Game for 2025
Sega thrilled fans at The Game Awards 2024 with the announcement of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a brand-new racing game set to release in 2025. This follows a stellar period for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which has seen recent successes such as Sonic Frontiers, Sonic X Shadow Generations, and the popular live-action films.
2024 has been declared “The Year of Shadow” by Sega, with the iconic anti-hero at the forefront of multiple projects. Shadow stars in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie and received a dedicated story campaign in Sonic X Shadow Generations. Adding to the excitement, downloadable content based on Sonic 3, featuring Shadow’s movie model and voice work by Keanu Reeves, was released earlier this year.
At the event, Sega unveiled a cinematic teaser for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The trailer showcases Shadow stepping into a sleek black-and-red car, the “Dark Reaper,” before racing through a rainbow-colored portal created by a golden ring. While gameplay details are scarce, fans speculate the game will combine kart racing mechanics with elements of the Sonic Riders series. A hanging object resembling Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders was spotted in the teaser, sparking rumors of hybrid gameplay options.
The game will launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox consoles, and more. Geoff Keighley confirmed at the event that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will debut sometime in 2025.
Fans are eager for more information, and Sega promises more updates in the coming months. Stay tuned for further announcements about Sonic’s latest high-speed adventure!
