Sony Establishes New AAA PlayStation Studio in Los Angeles
Sony has officially launched a new AAA game studio in Los Angeles, California. This marks the 20th first-party studio under the PlayStation umbrella, according to a recent job listing for a Project Senior Producer.
The unnamed studio is reportedly working on a “ground-breaking” original AAA IP for the PlayStation 5, generating excitement among fans eager to see what Sony’s latest addition will bring to its prestigious lineup of first-party developers like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, and Insomniac Games.
Speculation suggests that the new studio could involve Jason Blundell, a former Call of Duty: Black Ops developer, and his team. Blundell previously led Deviation Games before its closure in 2024, and many former employees of that studio have since joined Sony. Fans theorize that the project may be tied to the unfinished AAA game Deviation Games was working on before shutting down.
Another possibility is a spin-off team from Bungie, which was announced during Bungie’s layoffs in mid-2024. This team has been rumored to be part of Sony’s ongoing expansion efforts, though specifics remain unclear.
With the new studio still in its early stages, it could be several years before Sony unveils details about its upcoming project. However, PlayStation fans are thrilled to see Sony investing further into its first-party lineup and look forward to another exciting title joining the PS5 catalog.
